Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what weโre thankful for, but for many, itโs also a season that highlights lossโwhether through death, separation, or the distance caused by broken relationships. It can feel especially painful when family ties, which we expect to be lifelong and unshakable, begin to fade. These days, it seems more common for blood relatives to drift apart, leaving a void that can be hard to fill
Itโs okay to feel sadness, to grieve whatโs been lost. But donโt stay there. Take time to enjoy your holidays whether it is with your family that are blood or family that are friends, just embrace the people who choose to stand by you, and donโt deprive yourself of joy. You deserve love, laughter, and the goodness life has to offerโjust like everyone else.
This Thanksgiving, letโs be intentional about gratitude, not only for what we have but for the connections we nurture. Remember, your words and actions have the power to bring light to others. So, choose joy. Speak life. And celebrate the beauty of the season with an open heart.
However, family doesnโt always have to mean those weโre related to by blood. Sometimes, our truest family is found in close friendsโthe people who stand by us, support us, and speak life into our hearts. Thereโs nothing wrong with building a family out of those who bring positivity and love into our lives. Life is meant to be joyful, and by embracing that joy, we can pass it on to others.
Iโve learned that some years, the weight of loss feels heavier than others. But every year, I make a conscious effort to focus on the positiveโto speak life over myself so I can share it with others. I firmly believe that the words we speak and the energy we project shape the experiences we create. When we exude kindness and joy, it ripples out to those around us.
One of the most meaningful ways to honor our veterans is through sustained support. While Veterans Day provides a specific moment for us to acknowledge and celebrate their service, our commitment to veterans should extend well beyond a single day. This can come in the form of volunteer work with veteransโ organizations, donations to causes that provide critical services, or simply by offering our time to listen to a veteranโs story. Veterans have given so much of themselves; itโs only fitting that we give back.
There is an ongoing need for awareness and intervention efforts to protect victims and prevent future incidents of domestic violence. If you or someone you know is in need of support, resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE) are available for assistance.
Man Therapy is a suicide prevention initiative supported by evidence, established to achieve three main outcomes in men: 1) diminishing stigma, 2) promoting help-seeking actions, and 3) lowering thoughts of suicide. A $1.2 million five-year clinical study conducted in Michigan revealed strong proof that the campaign effectively achieves all of these goals.
Man Therapy is a mental health initiative aimed at men between the ages of 25 and 54 that uses humor to address topics such as depression, divorce, and anxiety in order to combat stigma
Understanding Mental Health with a twist of humor
There are so many other words that can be used in place of “crazy,” words that would be more proper, such as “mentally unstable” or “insane” if we’re talking about mental health, of course. Or if we’re talking about things that are eccentric, perhaps words such as “wildly enthusiastic” or “passionate,” “risky” or “daring” are more proper.
